to be a good restaurant employee

knowledge of menu: ingredients and preparations. knowing what you are serving is the expectation. when a guest has allergy and menu questions, you should be able to answer with confidence.
attention to detail. there are many moving parts to keep track of. steps of service with the guest, maintaining a clean work space, the opening and closing checklists that set you up for success each day. a good employee will be on top of all the details and standards of procedures.
a proactive mindset. being prepared for what’s coming next, anticipating guests needs, and knowing how to think independently and when to ask for help.
a teamplayer. a restaurant cannot function without each player on the team. a successful restaurant worker is one who respects their coworkers and the role each person has in this business.
ability to stay calm under pressure. there’s going to be moments when you have multiple things to do at the same time. how you prioritize those things, seek out help when needed, and speak to those around you matters.
a love of what you do. this industry can be difficult and if you’re not in it for the right reasons you will burnout. find joy in hospitality.
